About KIM

Identities: Vietnamese, Buddhist monastic, Immigrant

Life can feel overwhelming when you’re carrying the weight of trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, or major life transitions on your own. I believe healing begins when you feel truly seen, heard, and accepted. My goal is to provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can openly explore your experiences, reconnect with your strengths, and move toward a life that feels more meaningful and fulfilling.

My name is Kim Anh Nguyen, and I am a pre-licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Naropa University, specializing in Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology. Before becoming, therapist, I spent over 20 years as a Buddhist nun and studied Buddhist psychology and philosophy in Vietnam, Myanmar, and India. During those years, I developed a deep appreciation for mindfulness, compassion, patience, and the healing power of genuine human connection. Those experiences continue to shape the way I show up for my clients today.

After years of supporting people through spiritual practice and community, I felt called to expand my ability to help others by becoming a therapist. Today, I integrate the wisdom of contemplative practice with evidence-based psychotherapy, always honoring each client’s unique values, beliefs, and goals.

My clinical experience includes working with teens and adults who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, relationship challenges, domestic violence, stress, self- esteem concerns, and major life transitions. I believe therapy is a collaborative partnership, and every person’s healing journey is different. Rather than focusing on what is "wrong" with you, I believe each person already possesses resilience, wisdom, and the capacity to heal. My role is to help you reconnect with those strengths while providing practical tools to support lasting growth.

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally responsive. I draw from mindfulness-based practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy, and other evidence-based approaches to meet your individual needs. At the beginning of our sessions, I often invite clients to take a brief moment to slow down, check in with themselves, and become more present before we begin our work together. This simple practice can help create a sense of grounding and emotional safety.

As an immigrant, I understand many of the emotional and practical challenges that can come with adapting to a new culture, navigating identity, and finding a sense of belonging. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to providing culturally responsive care that honors each person’s background, values, and lived experiences. I enjoy working with clients from multicultural, immigrant, refugee, and BIPOC communities, and I also welcome those who wish to explore spirituality or faith as part of their healing journey.

If mindfulness or spirituality is meaningful to you, we can thoughtfully incorporate those practices into therapy. If you prefer a non-spiritual approach, I use mindfulness as an evidence-based tool to support emotional awareness, stress reduction, and self-compassion.

My goal is always to tailor therapy to your comfort level, preferences, and personal goals. I offer counseling in both English and Vietnamese, with in-person and telehealth services to increase accessibility for clients throughout Colorado.

Taking the first step toward therapy can feel vulnerable, but you don’t have to face life’s challenges alone. Whether you are healing from trauma, navigating a difficult life transition, or simply looking for a place where you can be yourself without judgment, I would love to a be a part of your healing journey.
