About Avelynn

Pronouns: She/They
Identities: Queer, Filipina American, Second-Generation, Independent Parent

I’m a therapist who works from a trauma-informed and evidence-based approach, but more than anything, I try to make therapy feel human. Healing often happens in the in-between places — where cultures, stories, and identities meet. Thinkers like Gloria Anzaldúa call these the borderlands, and that idea shapes how I hold space: you don’t have to leave any part of yourself at the door.

My family’s story is tied to the Filipino “second wave.” My dad served in the Navy, and my mom trained as a nurse before moving here, though her credentials weren’t recognized. I’ve moved through many communities — from queer Asian organizing in DC, to life as a military spouse in an interracial marriage, to LGBTQ+ ministry work after divorce. Now I’m raising my kids as a former military spouse and independent parent, and I know firsthand what it’s like to balance caregiving, identity, and resilience.

If you’ve ever felt caught between worlds or like you don’t fully belong, I get that. Therapy can be one of the places where you begin to feel whole again.

When I’m not in session, you’ll often find me at Loveland Pass — hiking a trail in the summer or snowboarding in the winter.
